ZESPRI packaging is 100% recyclable and several trials are underway to review biodegradability. The next generation packaging brings together technical excellence with environmental responsibility.

ZESPRI is working with its suppliers to develop innovations in packaging, including:

• Fruit labels - both paper-based material (compostable) and biodegradable Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) options are being trialed;
• Trials of PLA pocket packs (biodegradable) have proven successful.  Those trials will be expanded and cost estimates developed for possible industry-wide adoption; and
• Prototype biodegradable spifes made from a combination of PLA and waste kiwifruit fibre.
