Renewable-EnergyIn Zeebrugge, Belgium, ZESPRI’s European repacking and cooling hub, Belgium New Fruit Wharf, is operated on 100 percent renewable energy.

Belgium New Fruit Wharf signed up with Electrabel Suez to receive electricity from AlpEnergie – an arm of Electrabel that provides 100% of its electricity from renewal energy resources.

Belgium New Fruit Wharf understands that the changing needs of both the environment and customers and wants to leave a healthy environment for future generations. By changing electricity sources, the company has significantly reduced its carbon footprint, and hence that of the kiwifruit that pass through its doors.

AlpEnergie is supplied from 19 hydroelectric dams in Germany and 7 in the Pyrenees. The electricity is guaranteed as produced in sustainable hydroelectric sites, as certified by TUV SUD.

Belgium New Fruit Wharf is as committed as ZESPRI to become a more sustainable business, listening to what consumers are demanding and creating positive change for the benefit of the environment.
